Coach Tip: Ask permission of a player before giving him or her criticism or correction. For example, "I noticed something that might help you strike the ball better. Would you like to know what it is?". Asking permission gives athletes control, making them more open to the correction. Respect an answer of "no". There will be opportunities to give this information when they are better able to hear it
Parent Tip: Help your children apply lessons learned in sports to other aspects of life. For example, "If you can work hard enough to overcome obstacles on the soccer field, I have confidence you can handle that paper that's due next week."

The U5 division is a learning division and is designed to introduce young players to the game of soccer. Teams meet for up to a 75 minute session on Saturdays. Each session (6 in all) is divided into a 20 minute practice where children learn basic skills, a half hour of game time and an allotment for check in and a water break in between skills and game time. The children will play short-sided games (3 on a side) on small fields with highly simplified laws. Short-sided games help ensure that the children have fun and at the same time, maximize their learning opportunities.
