“U8 Bring Your Own Referee” Referee Policy

  • All Under 8 Division Teams must have a Team Referee under Region 1282’s “U8 Bring Your Own Referee” Policy.
  • U8 games use a single center referee with no assistants referees-AR’s (no offside, so no AR’s needed). Club linesmen/spectator volunteers are often used to help with in/out of play only and are not required to be certified.
  • It is the HOME TEAM’s responsibility to supply the Referee for the game if a volunteer referee does not sign up for the game.
  • The referee MUST BE a certified AYSO Referee Volunteer who has completed at a minimum the AYSO Regional (Basic) Referee Badge level of certification (ADULT OR YOUTH).
  • Divisions U8 and below do not participate in post season play, so there is no requirement for Referee Points for these teams. However, Team Referees for U8 may acquire points as per the 2010 Referee Points Policy for other teams by doing these games.

PROCEDURE:
  • The Team Referee (and/or Coach) should sign up as a MEMBER on the D4 Scheduler to be able to view their game schedules/referee assignments.
  • Friday evening before your Saturday game, please check your game schedule to see if there is a Referee signed up for your game. If a referee has not signed up, please sign up for the game assignment if you are the Home Team’s Referee.

WHY CAN’T WE GET PAID REFEREES TO DO THIS?
  • AYSO is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization. AYSO National Bylaws forbid us from paying our Referees.

AYSO La Costa is open to all children ages 4-18. Teams practice and play at Stagecoach Park, Aviara Community Park, Poinsettia Park and various elementary/middle schools in the La Costa community of Carlsbad.
